4.1.4- 4.1.5

?
Define Validation and Verification.
Validation is to ensure that data is sensible and of the right sort.
1 of 8
How can errors occur and how can validiation minimise it?
uring input, transcription, processing, transmission.Through Checks.
2 of 8
What are the validation types and give some examples.
resence check-it requires a value, which must be entered-card number, Format check- must conform to a preprescribed layout --/--/----, Range check-it must fall between 1-9 , Length check an entry has to be of a prescribed length- telephone number,
3 of 8
What are the different types of verification.
Double keying- inputting a password twice to make sure it's correct, proofreading- before printing an essay
4 of 8
What are the advantages of ICT over manual? (NOT how to find information)
Repetitive processing carrying out the same task repeatedly- automatic payroll, Speed of Processing- real time- Quick complex computer calculations I.E. Cash Machine, Ease of editing- can be changed without starting again I.E. homework/essays
5 of 8
What factors effect the efficiency of data processing systems?
compatiblity, poor communications, hardware, software, insufficient testing and maintenance
6 of 8
Give some examples of inefficiency within data proccessing systems?
Compatibility-the design on computer could be different to what has been printed out, poor communication-unclear error messages,hardware-old processor will take longer to process,maintenance(worker)- WITHOUT BACKUPS WORK WOULD BE LOST IN A POWERCUT.
7 of 8
What must you consider when designing data processing systems?
speed of searching, data storage capacity, accuracy and context and different output format.
