Equilibrium
If a reaction is occuring in both directions at the same rate
1 of 6
Le Chatelier's principle
stated that if a chemical system at equilibrium experiences a change in concentration, temperature or total pressure, the equilibirium will shift in order to minimize that change.
2 of 6
Ammonia
important chemical in industry, used to make fertilizers, sythetic fibres, dyes, plastics and explosives
3 of 6
concentration (effect of equilibrium)
if further reactant is added, the reaction increases to create more product, at the same time using up some of the rectant, and re-establishing the equilibrium
4 of 6
Temperature (effect of equilibrium)
increasing the temp favours te endothermic reation over the exothermic one. the rate of the endothermic prcoess will increase and the equilibrium will be re-established with new concentrations based onmore of the endothermic product.
5 of 6
Pressure (effect of equilibrium)
only affects when an unequal number of moles or reactants and products. then, increasing the pressure means there are more molecules in a given volume and is equivalent to increasing the concentration of a solution
