Which 'change' is associated with emergent coastlines?
isostatic rebound
1 of 10
What 2 land forms are a feature of emergent coastlines?
raised beaches
fossil cliffs
2 of 10
How does isostatic change cause fossil cliffs and to raised beaches form?
1) After and ice age the land rebounds.
2) This causes the height of the original land to increase
3) This leaves behind a beach and fossil cliff higher than their original position.
3 of 10
What are the 3 landforms associated with submergent coastlines?
rias
fjords
Dalmatian coasts
4 of 10
How is a ria formed?
A flooded river valley formed when rising sea levels flood the valley.
5 of 10
How is a fjord formed?
a flooded glaciated valley formed when glaciers erode vertically, creating a U-shaped valleys.
6 of 10
How are Dalmatian coasts formed?
alternating geology (rock types) parallel to the coastline. When the sea level rises, some is flooded while some rock remains forming islands.
7 of 10
compare marine platforms to raised beaches.
The are larger and gently sloping but are formed the same way.
8 of 10
What is eustatic change and how does it impact the planet?
global sea level change caused by the melting / forming of glaciers. Eustatic change can also be caused by the shape of the sea floor changing via tectonic processes.
9 of 10
Where does sea floor spreading occur?
mid-ocean ridges
