How many ATP does the lactic acid system produce?
2
1 of 12
How long does the lactic acid system last for?
It lasts between 30 seconds and 3 minutes depending on the intensity of the sport
2 of 12
What is lactic acid?
lactic acid- They by-product of the energy system that inhibits muscular contraction.
3 of 12
Name some advantages of the lactic acid system
It has fast speed reaction for fast work, it doesn't require oxygen and there are few chemical reactions
4 of 12
What is glycogen?
One of the ways in which glucose is stored in the body
5 of 12
What is glucose?
A simple way in which sugar is stored in the body
6 of 12
What is glycolysis?
The process in which glycogen is converted into energy
7 of 12
What is Pyruvic acid?
The by-product of glycolysis
8 of 12
Where is glycogen stored?
Glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver
9 of 12
What enzyme breaks down Glycogen?
It is broken down by the enzyme GPP (glycogen phosphorlase)
10 of 12
State the order in which the lactic acid system works
Glycogen is broken down into glucose by GPP, this is then turned into pryuvic acid. This happening causes enough energy to be released to resynthesise 2 ATP. as a consequence the pruvic acid is then turned into lactic acid.
11 of 12
Give some disadvantages of the lactic acid system
It only lasts between 30 seconds and two minutes, the by-product lactic acid is fatiguing to muscles
