2.1 - Cell Structure

HideShow resource information
Describe the function of vesicles?
They transport substances in and out of the cell and between organelles
1 of 9
What is the function of chloroplasts?
The site where photosynthesis takes place; some parts in the grana, and others in the stroma
2 of 9
If a cell contains mitochondria, is it prokaryotic or eukaryotic?
Eukaryotic
3 of 9
Describe the difference in a eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell wall?
In prokaryotes, the cell wall is made of a polysaccharide. In eukaryotic, plants have a cellulose cell wall, and fungi have a chitin cell wall
4 of 9
Give three functions of a cells cytoskeleton?
Microtubules and microfilaments support the cell's organelles. Strengthen and maintain the cell's shape. Responsible for the movement of materials within the cell
5 of 9
What is meant by a microscopes resolution?
Resolution is how well a microscope distinguishes between two points that are close together
6 of 9
Which microscope has a higher resolution: light microscope, TEM or SEM?
TEM with a resolution of 0.0002 um (micrometers)
7 of 9
How do laser scanning confocal microscopes work?
They use laser beams to scan a specimen, usually tagged with a fluorescent dye. The light is focused through pin whole onto a detector, which can produce a 2D or 3D image
8 of 9
What is the formula for calculating the magnification of an image?
Magnification = Image size / Object size
