Why is it called a 'Cold War'?
Because there was never any outright conflict, however it had all the other aspects of a war; e.g. forming allies, making weapons

Russia - Stalin (Communist) + America - Roosevelt, then Truman (Capitalist) + Britain -Churchill then Atlee (Capitalist)

Why was the Grand Alliance doomed from the start?
It was a marriage of convenience. When Germany is defeated, they would have nothing to agree on and it broke down.

They could not agree on Germany's future. Stalin wanted Germany to be punished while Roosevelt and Churchill wanted Germany to be rebuilt.

Stalin had a good relationship with President Roosevelt, who was soon to be dead and replaced with Truman.

In the future, Germany would be spilt into four parts, disagree on what 'democracy' means, no agreement on reparations.

Agreed on how Germany should be split, that there would be freedom of speech, press and free elections

He had the atomic bomb, which no one else had, and tried to boss Stalin around.

Stalin was annoyed at Truman and he was determined to protect his country, so he created the satellite states.
