1.2 Animal and plant cells

?
Nucleus
Controls all the activities of the cell and is surrounded by the nuclear membrane. It contains the genes on the chromosomes that carry the instructions for making the proteins needed to build new cells or organisms
1 of 8
Cytoplasm
A liquid gel in which the organelles are suspended and where most of the chemical reactions needed for life take place
2 of 8
Cell membrane
Controls the passage of substances in and out the cell
3 of 8
Mitochondria
Structures in the cytoplasm where aerobic respiration takes place, releasing energy for the cell
4 of 8
Ribosomes
Where photosynthesis takes place, making all the proteins in the cell
5 of 8
Cell wall
Made of cellulose that strengthens the cell and gives it support
6 of 8
Chloroplast
Found in a green parts of a plant. They are green because they contain the green substance chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light so the plant make food by photosynthesis
7 of 8
Permanent vacuole
Space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap. Keeps the cell rigid to support the plant.
