What are Ectoparasites?
Paracites found on the outside of an animal.

Describe a flea?
A small, 6 legged, wingless insect that posesses specially adapted legs for jumping and specilised mouth parts for piercing skin and sucking blood.

Describe stage 1 the life cycle of a flea?
1) Adult female lays numerous eggs after a blood feed and eggs fall into the environment.

Describe stage 2 the life cycle of a flea?
2)Eggs hatch between 2-5 days, releasing flea larve.

Describe stage 3 the life cycle of a flea?
3)Larvea feed on dust and dirt in their environment, moulting several times before spinning a cacoon(7-20) days.

Describe stage 4 the life cycle of a flea?
4)Adult flea hatched roughly 7 days later.

What disease is associated with fleas?
Myxamatosis.

What are the symptoms of an animal that has fleas?
Exessive scratching, patchy fur loss, thickening od skin due to repeated scratching, flea dirt, red irritated skin, fleas may be visable in a seveare case.

How do you prevent fleas in an animal?
Regular preventative treatment(tablets, injection, spot on), wash pet bedding, vacuming carpets, treatment of environmentto kill flea legs and brek fleas lifestyle.
