Compare the instruction sets of a RISC & CISC processor
Complex Instruction Set Computer has hundreds of instructions and the instruction cycle is more complex. Reduced Instruction Set Computer has a small instruction set. To do complex tasks, CPUs must combine simple operations.
1 of 6
Describe the physical differences between RISC & CISC processors
In order to handle all those instructions CISC CPUs are larger and require more silicon to make.
2 of 6
State where RISC & CISC processors would be found
CISC CPUs can be found in most desktop or laptop computers. RISC CPUs can be found in smartphones or tablets.
3 of 6
Describe how GPUs aid the efficiency of a system
A Graphic Processing Unit is a co-processor. This is an additional processor for a specific task such as mathematical processes or processing graphics. They improve processing speed by executing concurrently with the main processor.
4 of 6
Describe the characteristics of a multi core system
Multi Core has one processor but with multiple cores that can handle different tasks at the same time.
5 of 6
Describe the characteristics of a parallel system
Parallel systems have multiple processors (which may have multiple cores). These can all work on different tasks within the same job, speeding up processing.
