what is social psychology?
the scientific study of the way peoples thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the presence of others

behaviour in natural habitat, maximises external validity, study situations that can't be in labs, minimises suspicion

what is a lab study?
it is done in an artificial situation, lots of control in the lab, maximises internal validity, it is more convenient and less costly

self report, observational research, archival research and meta-analysis

3) minimal risk for no harm
