Aim: To investigate how readily people would conform to social roles in a stimulated situation
Method
- Zimbardo converted the basment of Stanford U into a mock prison.
- 24 male students recruited to play the roles of gurads and prisoners-roles appointed randomly
- Prisoners were arrested and taken to jail- Gurads were given uniforms and sunglasses
- Prisoners were only referred to by their prison numbers and treated like every other criminal
