The menstual cycle is a 28-day cycle of the female reproductive system.

It starts on day 1, this is the first day of menstruation for the woman.

Menstruation typically lasts between 5 to 7 days. During this time the hormone FSH is produced from the pituitary gland. FSH causes an ovum to mature in the ovary.

Once menstruation has finished, FSH stimulates the hormone oestrogen to be released from the ovary.
