- A mixture consists of two or more elements or compounds not chemically combined together
- The chemical properties of each substance is not changed
- It is possible to seperate the substances by physical methods
- These include distillation, filtration and crystilisation
- Paper chromatography can be used to analyse substances present in solution
- Elements and compounds can be detected and identified using instrumental methods
- These methods are accurate, sensitive and rapid.
- They are very useful for very small samples
