  • Lexis of supernatural words- "ice-cold/melancholy/creature"- adds to the idea that this experience is ghostly
  • Lexis of fear- "terror/cruel/horror of nightmares"- adds to the feeling that this is a nightmare of Lockwood's
  • Repetition of "Let me in!" shows Cathy's desperation to be back at Wuthering Heights
  • "Little, ice cold hand"- pre modification adds to the Gothic tone- makes it more supernatural, as ghosts are often cold
