AO1

Central executive: Directs attention to particular tasks, determining how each of the brain's resources which refer to the three slave systems are allocated to a task. Data arrives from the senses or LTM. CE has a limited capacity.

Phonological loop: Limited capacity. In deals with auditory information and preserves the order of informations. Baddeley subdivided it into the phonological store that holds words you hear like an inner ear, and the articulatory process that hold words heard or seen which are silently repeated like an inner voice (maintenance rehearsal).

Visuo-spatial sketchpad: Used when you need to plan a spatial task. Visuo and/or spatial info is stored temporarily. Visual info is what something looks like and spatial info is the physical relationship between things. Logie divided this into a visual cache which stores information about visual items and an inner scribe that stores information about the arrangement objects.

Episodic buffer: Baddeley added in 2000 as a general store was needed because no store held visual and acoustic information. It too has a limited capacity. It integrates information from all three stores and maintains a sense of time sequencing. The buffer sends information to the LTM.

AO3
