Wrote in tercets, the line length alludes to an imbalance and that there is something wrong, reflecting the broken nature of the relationship. The final stanza is a couplet, reflecting an optimistic ending by having it differ from the tercets. Also, a couplet to show a couple.

Natural imagery with pathetic fallacy 'the clouds have given their all' things in the relationship is not good, personification. 

'gulping for breath' struggling to stay afloat.
