IDEOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES;
- Khrushchev pursued a policy of reconciliation with Tito, the Yugoslav leader, who previously refused implement Stalin's policy in 1948
- Mao was heavily critical of Khrushchev's pursuit of improved relations with America and his policy of Peaceful Coexistence was seen as a weakness against capitalist power - heightened when he visited America in Sept 1959
- Khrushchev's secret speech in February 1956 which denounced Stalin caused anger as he stated Stalin's ideology had errors but Mao had implemented Stalin's policies himself
