The Grand Alliance

  • By the end of 1941, Russia was in an informal alliance with Britain and America
  • In May 1941, Russia and Britain signed a formal treaty
  • The Grand Alliance diverted Hitler's attention, reducing the threat to the Russian people, for example, British bombers targeted German cities so that the German air force, the Luftwaffe, could not concentrate on Russia
  • Following D-Day in June 1944, the British and American forces  opened another front against Germany
  • Allied central intelligence undermined Germany's war
