Why did people join the First Crusade?

The main reasons that people joined the first Crusade were:

• Primogeniture 
• Wealth 
• Land 
• Social reaons 
• Religious reasons 

Primogeniture 

Exampled in Tacred.

This was where the youngest son didn't inherit any land/wealth from their father and so had to find their own.

Hence they went on Crusade to obtain land etc. becasue they were born without any. 

Wealth 

The foot soldiers. 

There was the opportunity to loot towns that were captured during Crusade. 

Also shown by Baldwin who took the wealthy city of Edessa after his wife dies, becasue her wealth reverted to her family, leaving him with nothing.
