The rich

  • 3% of people were rich and earned £700 a year
  • they employed a lot of servants to do most of their domestic work
    • servants were not payed as much, it might be 25p a week
  • they often spent winter abroad
  • life expectancy was 52 years and up
  • all men had the vote

The middle classes

  • 9% of the people were middle class
  • they earnt from £150 - £700 a year
  • eg, shopkeepers, lawyers. doctors, teachers
  • life expectancy was 41…
