Humans have 46 chromosomes which are arranged into pairs, so 23 chromosomes from each parent. Each chromosome is made up of a single DNA molecule about 5cm long which contains about 1.3x10 8. In a human cell, the nucleus is 5 micrometers in diameter and contains about 1 meter of DNA.
