What happened after the Rump was dissolved?
- The dissolution gave power to the Army Council, who began the process of creating a new governing body
- Instead of an elected Parliament, they created a Nominated Assembly - 144 'persons fearing God' were summoned to form the Assembly (this angered Cromwell because the Assembly was not a Parliament as it had not been elected)
- The Assembly met in July 1653 and appointed a new Council of State
- It was never intended to be permanent, and immediately fixed November 1654 as the date for its own dissolution
