Weimar Germany - Threats to Democracy

In 1919 communist workers' councils seized power all over Germany. A Communist People's Government took over in Bavaria.

Kapp Putsch:

  • March 1920 - right-wing nationalist Dr Wolfgang Kapp took over Berlin
  • Set himself up as head of government
  • Army refused to attack him
  • Only defeated when workers in Berlin went on strike
