The Weberian approach by Max Weber focuses less on what religion does and more on what it means for individuals and society.  

  • Weber wanted to understand why capitalism developed in some societies but not others
  • He argued that Calvinism is what provided the 'spirit of capitalism'
  • The basis of this 'spirit' was predestination
