These are drawn from the recors kept by the police and other offcial agencies and published every 6 months by the home office.
Problems with it:
They only show crimes which have been recorded and reported by the police.
Crimes are not reported to the police if they are: seen as too trivial, too embarrassing, a private matter, the victim may not be in a position to give information, their faith in the police isn't very high, victimless, not seen as caused any harm.
Approximately 40% of crimes are not recorded by the police.
The police filter down information due to: the level of seriousness, the social status of the victim, the classification of crime, the promotion and relationship…
