Waves

?

Water waves are transverse

A transverse wave has undulations that are right angles to the direction the wave is travelling. These undulations also show the transfer of energy.

If a wave hits something, it reflects. This causes the direction of the wave to change.

  • The crest is the highest part of the wave
  • The trough is the lowest part of the wave
  • The displacement is how far a point on the wave is from the middle of the line
  •  The amplitude is the maximum displacement- the distance from the middle of the wave to the crest or the trough

Superposition happens when two waves meet.

Light is a wave that transfers energy. It is produced by luminous objects and the waves from light travel in straight lines.

Water and light waves are similar. They
