Water Quality

Drinking water needs to be good quality and free from pollution, poisonous salts (eg. phosphates and nitrates) and microbes. It normally comes from reservoirs which then goes through treatment:

1) The water passes through a mesh screen to remove big bits like twigs

2) Chemicals are added to make solids and microbes stick together and fall to the bottom

3) The water is filteered through gravel beds to remove all the solids

4) Water is the chlorinated to kill off any harmful microbes left and then sent to peoples houses
