Summary

• An explorer and captain on an Arctic expedition in search of the Northwest Passage to the Pacific Ocean.
• Rescues Victor who orally passes on his and the Creature's story. Walton records these in letters to his sister, Margaret.

Mirror to Victor

• Rebels against his father's instructions that he shouldn't follow his desire to be an explorer. Victor also rebels against his father's views of his scientific ambition. Both characters seek forbidden knowledge.
• Victor wants to understand and manipulate the laws of nature whereas Walton wants to understand natural geography further.
• Both characters are obsessed by their ambition and they both leave the safety of their homes in order to achieve their goals.
