Magma is molten rock under the Earths surface. When it reaches the surface it is known as lava.

There are two different types of volcanoes:

- Sheild volcanoes

- Composite cone volcanoes

A shield is formed at constructive plate boundaries. Eruptions are quite frequent but they are not violent eruptions. Basic lava flows out of them which very runny and it flows for a long time. As a result, the sides of the volcano are sloped and the whole volcano is very wide.
