Vienna Settlement:
- unity at this stage was completely off of peoples' minds
- firstly, the main possibly important factor was that Austria and Prussia were both rivals who wanted the overall majority of Germany
- but they were civil at this stage
- Metternich called it a 'peaceful dualism'
- both countries were part of the Great Powers that were ultimately the Congress of Vienna (since they both participated in the war and won)
- each country had great gains as well
- the Vienna Peace Settlement was 1815
Austria's gains:
- most of Austria's land gains came from Italy rather than Germany
- they gained Lombardy and Venetia
- while the Austrian ruling family were reinstated to Parma, Modena and Tuscany
