Vienna Settlement: Germany

Vienna Settlement:

• unity at this stage was completely off of peoples' minds
• firstly, the main possibly important factor was that Austria and Prussia were both rivals who wanted the overall majority of Germany
• but they were civil at this stage
• Metternich called it a 'peaceful dualism'
• both countries were part of the Great Powers that were ultimately the Congress of Vienna (since they both participated in the war and won)
• each country had great gains as well
• the Vienna Peace Settlement was 1815

Austria's gains:

• most of Austria's land gains came from Italy rather than Germany
• they gained Lombardy and Venetia
• while the Austrian ruling family were reinstated to Parma, Modena and Tuscany
