PROPERTIES OF IRON AND ALUMINIUM

1)     Dense and lustrous (i.e. shiny)

2)     High melting points – iron melts at 1500°C and aluminium melts at 660°C

3)     High tensile strength – they’re strong and hard to break

4)     Malleable – can be hammered into different shapes

 5)     Good conductors of heat and electricity

USES OF IRON

1)     Wrought iron is almost completely pure iron. It’s malleable, so it’s used to make ornamental gates and railings

2)     You can also mix iron with other elements to make alloys, which have different properties to pure iron. For example:

  •   Cast iron – mixture of iron, carbon,
