Effects of rapid urbanisation & issues

Waste disposal- poor countries suffer most with this problem

  • Money- cant afford to dispose of waste safely
  • Infrastructure- poor countries dont have infrastructure needed
  • Scale- problem is huge. A large city will produce thousands of tonnes of waste everyday

Air pollution

  • Leads to acid rain which damages buildings and vegitation
  • Causes health problems like bronchitis
  • Destroys ozone layer which protects us from suns rays

Water pollution

  • Kills fish and other aquatic animals which disrupts food chains
  • Chemicals build up in food chain
  • Contamination of water supplies with sewage can spread diseases like typhoid
