Changing role of women in society
THEN
- Women had few rights
- They stayed at home and did not work
- More started to work in WW1
- Laws gave women the right to vote in 1918
TODAY
- Women campaigned for equal pay
- Laws ( equal pay act 1970 )
- More men have come to accept equal rights
Christian views on role of women
SOME FAVOUR EQUAL RIGHTS
- Jesus treated women fairly
- Modern society treats women equally
- Bible says men and women are created equal
SOME DO NOT
- Traditional view
- Jesus' disciples were men
- Adam created before Eve
- God sent a son not a daughter
- Catholic Church opposes ordination
Britain as a multi ethnic society
SOME SUPPORT
- Leads to tolerance, understanding and respect
- Migrants have introduced new ideas eg food
- Migrants help the economy
SOME OPPOSE
- Encourages nasty parties which incite
- Migrants take jobs, school places etc
- Tension can result from races living side by side
- Britain is full
How governments promote good community relations
- They fund local groups
- Schools have to teach lessons in racism
- Laws…
