Reasons why some people believe in God

CHRISTIAN UPBRINGING

• going to Church
• saying prayers
• going to sunday school

RELGIOUS EXPERIENCES

• feeling of awe
• stories of miracles
• conversion

DESIGN

• the universe has laws (eg gravity)
• laws need designers (eg blueprints)
• the universe has much beauty (suggests planning)
• only God can be that

CAUSATION

• everything needs a 'first cause' (train engine = first cause)
• universe must have first cause
• only something all powerful could do that
• God is all powerful
• therefore, God is the 'first cause' (God pressed the button)

Reasons why some may not believe in God

SCIENCE

• Big Bang theory
• evolution
• fossils
• many things in universe are badly designed
• if God created the universe who created God?
