  • Thermo-ceramics - used in specialist engineering situations. Their internal structure makes them extremely hard and very stable at very high temperatures. Used in places where stability and strength at high temp. are necessary. e.g. turbine blades in jet engines, turbo chargers in racing cars.
  • Tinted glass and photochromic glass - Glass that automatically darkens when exposed to ultraviolet light & then reverts to when light has gone. Used in spectacles.
  • Solar panels - A method of producing energy without using up fossil fuels. They harvest the light from the sun using photovoltaic, or solar cells. Thin layers of silicon, when exposed to sunlight, one layer becomes electron rich whilst others are deficient…
