Unit 1 BIOL1 AQA Biology - Digestion + Carbohydrates

HideShow resource information

Enzymes break down large molecules (macro-molecules) into small molecules so they can be absorbed into the blood stream.

CH2O = (1)Carbon (2)Hydrogen (1)Oxygen
Carbohydrates are large molecules made up of monomers in a chain which make a polymer. Digesting enzymes break down the hydrogen bonds holding the monomers together.
(Synthesis is the name of the process which joins monomers together)

Condensation reactions: (OH = Hydroxyl group)
