United Nations (UN)

The UN was established in 1945 when representatives of 51 countries met in San Francisco, USA to draw up the United Nations charter. The United Nations cam into existence on 24, October 1945. 
The UN had its headquarters in New York, where all member countries meet to decide the policy and action to be taken by the UN. The General Assembly is the forum to which all member countries belong. The Security Council is made up of fifteen members, five of which are permanent and have the ability to veto any proposals.
The UK is a founder member of the UN and has a permanent seat on the Security Council.
The UN is one of the most important international organisations in the world with 193 members.
