Rutland water
- A reservoir in the East Midlands
- The dam was built in the 1970s and covers 12km and is filled with water from two rivers (the river Welland and the river Nene)
- Rutland water was designed to supply the East Midlands with more water - enough to cope with rapid population growth in places like Peterborough
- Areas around the reservior are also used as a nature reserve and for recreations
Economic
- Boosts the local economy as its a popluar tourist attraction because of the wildlife and facilities
- Around 6km of land was flooded to create the reservior, which included farmland, so farmers loast thier livelihoods
Social
- Lots of recreational activities take place on and around the reservior
- Many jobs have been created
- Schools use the reservoir for educational visits
- Two villages were demolished to make way for the reservior
Environmental
- Site of special scientific interest due to its wildlife
