  • Running lava - basaltic lava - lots of it
  • Not a lot of ash
  • Occur at constructive plate boundaries/hotspots
  • Not usually explosive
  • Wide base of volcano

  • Cone made of mainly layers of lava
  • E.G. Manua Loa - Hawaii
