Orders in Council:

One of the remaining functions of the Privy Council is to make Orders in Council. They are drafted by the Government and given fomal approval by the Queen and Privy Counci. The Privy Council is a body made up of senior current and former polititians, senior judges and members of the Royal Family. Orders in Council are used for many situations; such as in times of national emergency when Parliament is not sitting e.g. an order in council was made aftr the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001.
