Two Forms Of Democracy

• Direct Democracy, based on athenian system, basically held referendums
• The swiss use forms of direct democracy, very effective, referendum on tunnel going through the alps (not really needed, government basically redundant)
• California also uses direct democracy, Smoking Ban inititive started there
• Modern example would be referendums, EU referendum in 2016, bad many people were misinformed 
• However representative also good, keeps electors accountable, Lib Dems getting messed up in 2015 because of their broken promices 
• MP Zac Goldsmith opposing third runway at heathrow, good representative politics 
• Represrentatives work on national issues as well, Syria vote in 2015, very complex 
• Stops tyranny of the majority,…
