TV Drama: Representation

Probably the most central aspect of media studies is the study of representation.

When analysing representation we are thinking about how accurately the media shows the world to the audience. When studying TV Drama we are dealing with fictional characters that represent (are a symbol for) people and groups in society.

So if these are not real people (they are actors) and events as they actually happened (it is scripted) all representations are constructed. In order for us to accept and enjoy the story the representations need to convince us and be believable.
