  • Truman had a more enthusiastic, personal campaign:
    • Truman, using his whistlestop campaign, delivered over 250, intense speeches, speaking on hard hitting, controversial topics and made at least 10 appearences every day despite his hectic schedule.
    • Dewey, with a lighter shcedule only delivered 170 speeches and made about 6 appearances aty most per day and even thoser were often impersonal and vague as he feared spoeaking directly would limit his powers should he become president.
  • Dewey had many weaknesses. 
    • He was often impersonal in his approach to his campaign. He paid little attention to small details eg when he assumed children had been let off from school when it was really the summer holiday, or in the Illinois engineer
