Water is an important compound in plants. It is necessary for:
- photosynthesis, as a raw material
- support, to keep cells firm and turgid(turgor)
- for transport of mineral ions
- a solvent
Movement of water through a plant
Water enters roots by osmosis and moves along cells until it reaches a xylem, which carries it to the plant.
Transpiration - the Los of water through the leaves
The transpiration stream - the continuous flow of water, into, through and out of the plant.
