Transition metal properties

• good conductors of heat and electricity
• dense, strong, shiny
• less reactive than group 1 metals (don't react as vigorously with water or oxygen)
• denser, stronger and harder than alkali metals
• have higher melting points than alkali metals

Transition metals can have more than one ion.
Copper: Cu+ and Cu2+
Chromium: Cr2+ and Cr3+
