  • Evidence of early life forms comes from fossils
  • Fossils are the 'remains' of organisms from hundereds of thousands of years ago, which are found in rocks
  • Fossils may be formaed in vaious ways:
    • from parts of organisms that haven't decayed because one or more of the conditions needed for decay were absent
    • when parts if an organism are replaced by other materials as they decay
    • as preserved traces of organisms
      • eg footprints, burrows and rootlet traces
