WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS

  • electrolysis= an electric current passed through a substance known as an electrolyte
  • The electrolyte is provides particles to carry the electricity.
  • Ions are the particles that carry the electricity.
  • Acids can act as electrolytes because they provide hydrogen ions and other ions in their solutions.
  • Soluble (or molten) salts can also act as electrolytes, because they dissolve in water to give mobile ions.
