MOLES IN SOLUTION
- A 10% solution contains 10 g of solute in 100 g of solution.
- It might then be quoted as grams per cubic centimetre (g/cm3 or g cm 3).
- A decimetre is 10 centimetres, so a cubic decimetre is 1000 cubic centimetres. This is the same as the more everyday unit, the litre, so a cubic decimetre is equal in volume to a litre.
- A molar solution contains one mole of the solute in 1 cubic decimetre of solution. This can be written as either 1 mol dm–3 or as 1M. This is sometimes referred to as the molarity or molar concentration.
