KINETIC THEORY

  • kinetic theory= that molecules are in continual random motion, and that this can explain many of the factors that affect reaction rates.
  • diffusion= the movement of a substance from a region of higher concentrationto a region of lower concentration.
  • Brownian motion= the erratic random movement of microscopic particles, as a result of continuous bombardment from molecules surrounding it.
  • Heats of vaporisation can be used to compare the amounts of energy required to separate the same numbers of particles of different elements or compounds
  • Imagine a gas with all its molecules in motion. They will collide with the walls of the container at intervals. This gives rise to pressure.
