Three types of muscles

All muscles preform a force on contraction because they are made of filaments made of proteins Actin and Myosin.

Three types of muscle;

  • Involuntary muscle- also know as smooth muscle 
  • cardiac muscle
  • Voluntary muscle- Also known as skeletal muscle 

Involuntary muscle 

Smooth muscle is innervated by neurones of the autonomic nervous system. This means that contractions by these muscles are not under conscious control.

Examples of smooth muscle are; the walls of the intestine which are needed for peristalisis, The iris of the Eye, which controls the intensity of the light that enters the eye and also the walls of the arterioles.
